Terms of Service

Last updated:

Terms for using the EarthFinds website and Android nature identification app, including photo submissions, suggested matches and safety limitations.

Using EarthFinds

These terms cover your use of the EarthFinds website and Android app. Use the service only if you can lawfully agree to these terms, or with a parent or guardian’s authorization where required. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Applicable consumer rights remain in place.

A learning tool, not a confirmed identification

EarthFinds provides possible species matches and information to support curiosity and learning. Results can be incomplete or incorrect. Confidence scores are estimates from identification services and are not guarantees. Compare visible features, consider alternative matches, and seek a qualified local expert when accuracy matters. The website is an informational site; photo identification occurs in the Android app.

Mushroom, plant and outdoor safety

Never eat a wild mushroom based on an EarthFinds result or any photo match. Edibility labels describe a suggested species, not a confirmed identification of your specimen. Unknown, conditional and missing information do not mean safe. Obtain in-person identification from a qualified local expert. Do not rely on EarthFinds for medical treatment, poisoning decisions, plant consumption or any other safety-critical decision. In an emergency, contact local emergency services or a poison control service. Observe local rules, wildlife protections and property rights when exploring.

Your photos and content

Submit only photos and other material you own or have permission to use. You retain your rights in your content. By requesting identification, you permit processing and transmission of the selected image as needed to provide that request. Identification providers apply their own applicable terms to their services. Do not submit unlawful material or photos containing unnecessary personal or sensitive information. The Privacy Policy explains local storage and provider processing.

Acceptable use

Do not misuse the service, disrupt identification providers, attempt unauthorized access, extract or misuse service credentials, bypass usage controls, or use the service unlawfully. Access may be limited where needed to protect the service or respond to misuse. Public website content may be accessed by search and AI crawlers in accordance with the published robots.txt; that access does not grant unrestricted rights to republish copyrighted material.

Availability, changes and future features

New species identification requires internet access and third-party services. Connectivity, service outages, usage limits or provider changes can affect results and availability. Saved journal results can be viewed offline. Features may change or become unavailable. Rocks, minerals and crystals are planned features, not current capabilities or promised delivery dates. These terms do not promise a particular app-store release date or price; any purchase or subscription would be subject to terms disclosed at the point of purchase.

EarthFinds and third-party materials

The website, app design, branding and other materials are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Your use of the service does not transfer ownership of them. Provider descriptions, images and other third-party content remain subject to their owners’ rights and applicable licenses. Preserve source and license notices. References to third parties do not imply their endorsement of EarthFinds.

Disclaimers and limitations

To the extent permitted by applicable law, EarthFinds is provided as available without a promise of uninterrupted operation, error-free results or fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential loss arising from reliance on an identification or inability to use the service. Nothing in these terms excludes liability or rights that cannot legally be excluded, including mandatory consumer protections. These terms do not replace professional identification or advice.

Privacy and local data

The Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy explain data handling. You are responsible for deciding what to submit and for preserving information you need. The current app has no journal cloud-sync feature. Removing app data or uninstalling can permanently remove your local journal; deleting local records does not delete provider-held copies.

Changes, questions and disputes

Updated terms will be posted here with a revised date. Material changes will be communicated and consent requested where required by law. Contact [email protected] with questions or concerns so we can try to resolve them. These terms do not restrict access to courts, regulators or other remedies available under applicable law.
